THE OLD JET DARKROOM

We have a fully equipped space that is perfect for one or two users at a time.

Whether you are looking to rent a darkroom for film processing or hand printing, you’ll find a range of options at Old Jet.

We are open Monday to Friday 10am – 6pm.

Evening and weekend sessions are available by special arrangement.

Equipment includes:

1 x Durst M605 suitable for 35mm negatives
1x Durst Modular 70 Pro Vario suitable for most medium format negatives

Plus, chemicals for developing black and white film and prints; film developing tanks for both 35mm and 120 film; a large selection of trays, funnels, measuring jugs, focus finders, light box, and tongs.

You can hire the dark room by the day or half-day at reasonable rates and with exclusive use throughout the session. Film process and print chemistry is included but please bring your own printing paper of choice. Here is a stockist that we like – www.ag-photolab.co.uk/product-category/shop/paper/

We can provide basic guidance on how to use the equipment if required or you can opt for a full or half day tuition with our supervising printer Nick Ilott, either 1:1 or with a friend. The full-day session covers both film processing and hand printing techniques and we also provide guidance notes for reference.

To book the darkroom for independent use, you will need to have had previous experience in a dark room and had a health and safety induction, which will probably be arranged for your first visit and is included in your initial hire price. After an initial induction you will then be able to book sessions directly through our booking system.

If you do not have previous experience we offer private 1 on 1 tuition to get you acquainted.

DARKROOM WORKSHOPS

These range from the following:

Full day – £180 per person

Participants bring a camera, are supplied with black and white film and together we shoot, develop and print their images.

Print only – £60 per person

A two hour darkroom session where you will learn how to make black and white photographic prints.

Film developing – £60 per person

A two hour darkroom session learning how to develop a black and white film.

Print and film developing – £120 per person

A two hour darkroom session learning how to develop a black and white film.

NICK ILOTT'S PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP

Learn the basics of portrait photography in a four hour workshop session at Old Jet with Nick Ilott.

Suitable for both film and digital photography enthusiasts the course will cover:

Posing subjects
Using natural and artificial lighting
Creative portraits
Editing your shots
